"y" is [y]

Any time something is written with "y" in Astapori Valyrian it should be pronounced [y], not [i]. Nitsy 18:44, 3 July 2013 (CDT)

verdje and jimi

verdje [ˈveɾdʒe] n. decorator? verdje espo jimi window dresser (prob. < HV verdagon.) Byjan vavi demble eva o, trezy eme verdje espo jimi! — I fart in your general direction, son of a window-dresser!

"verdje espo jimi" looks to me like "dresser of windows". Maybe we should separate the entries into two for each part --Tertrih 04:14, 25 June 2014 (CDT)

Well, verdje is already its own entry, with verdje espo jimi listed as a specific expression. The reason that jimi is not (yet) its own entry is that we don't know the singular of jimi. Normally, if I don't know the "citation form" (that is, the basic form used in a dictionary listing) of a word, I comment it out until we can get David J. Peterson to tell us what it actually looks like. There are a couple of exceptions on the High Valyrian Vocabulary page, where Juelos and Papaya added words from the article High Valyrian 101 for which we didn't have a citation form. In those cases, I marked the words with an asterisk, and greyed them out (using the {{gr}} template—you will notice this is used on many pages to mark uncertainty).
So if you really want to add jimi' as a separate word, I recommend the following steps:
  1. Ask David J. Peterson what the citation form is. He'll often answer queries on [1], [2] or [3] (Generally if you ask on his blog or twitter he will either answer immediately or not answer at all. If you ask on tumblr it's the exact opposite: he may take a while, but he nearly always does respond eventually.) It is useful for you to do this, because I ask him so many questions that he starts to tune me out.. a fresh face is more likely to get an answer!
  2. If you can't get an answer, but really want to add the word anyway, mark it with an asterisk and grey out the ending, like this:
... which will produce:
And of course, try to make the entries look as much like the others as possible, as far as formatting is concerned. And of course, feel free to follow this procedure with other unlisted words you'd like to add.

Shouldn't joragon rather be joragho?--Tertrih 01:08, 2 July 2014 (CDT)
